Well I've been mulling over what my next car would be for quite some time, swapping between the idea of something newer such as a B5 or B6 S4 and the E36 M3 or older items such as an E30. I really wasn't sure what I wanted, and while I could afford something in the higher price point, it would have been easier overall not to delve into a loan at this time. I had resolved that the car I should have would make itself known at the right time and just looked at many different models and options in the meanwhile.

[BORING STORY AHEAD]

The car made itself known on Thursday and was in my name by Friday. At the local euro parts store, one of the employees drives a 1987 Audi Coupe GT. I saw it and started talking to him a bit while getting bits for the Scirocco and he noted that he may be selling the car soon. I told him to keep me abreast and went on my way, not thinking much of it but keeping it in mind. A couple weeks went by and I started thinking about the Coupe again and so I started reading about them on the interwebs. They seemed pretty nifty, despite being FWD and so I decided to give him a ring and see if he was serious. Sadly, he said that he was sort of only entertaining the idea and joking more than anything else. In the same sentence he did drop that the service manager at the local dealer also owned a Coupe GT, 1986 vintage and that he just listed it for sale.

I got excited and called up the dealer to talk with him about the car and what he was looking to get for it. He talked with me a good while about the car and explained everything it had done and that he has owned it for nine years, much of that time spent tracking it annually at Roebling Road, but that he sort has nothing else to do to it and is just looking to change directions. I scheduled to look at the car and was subsequently impressed with the package, despite some little issues, which is not unexpected for a 24 year old car. Cash in his hand, title in mine, Sam and I drove away pretty happy with a peculiar automobile that most probably mistook for a Scirocco with different badging.

It needs a bit of attention but I still want to get the Scirocco done before the end of the month, so it'll have to wait a little bit. I hope to at least give it a full detail, including tidying up the engine bay by next weekend.

This thing is a riot to drive! Power comes on strong (and early) and rides out to redline. I couldn't even give the car a proper test of it's performance until I got on to the toll road as the speed limits are just too low on regular streets to have messed around too much. Traction is a joke once the turbo spools but the LSD keeps thing going reasonably straight. I've been told that Quaife makes a much better unit, but I can take a look at that down the road. Handling is awesome! The suspension work makes the ride very firm but it isn't uncomfortable at all despite the solid mount front control arms. Braking is well balanced with the power output, which is certainly welcomed.

Sweet ride. Haven't seen one of those in quite awhile. When are you going to put the Audi rally car paint scheme on it?

That's the one. Those car are badass! The Audi TransAm car were the s##t back in the day. Kicked the Mustangs and Camaros ass and forced the officials to add weight to the repeatedly unbtil they weren't competitive anymore. They use to chirp all four tires when they shifted.

Thats good, considering all the mods and shape its in. I would drive that car because it looks bad A$$

I want to run that car and not thru the twisties. It should be a good race. Im anxious to see what that car can do with all its mods. So I am challenging you.

I wish I had picked it up sooner, would of been nice to have had it dyno'd at the event over the weekend. Next time...
